MARIA AUGUSTA is my mother’s name. Originally from Portugal, born in Porto, she loved her family, Port wine, an “bacalhau” . She was a great traveler, an adventurer, loved family parties and having her dear childhood friends around.
GRAPE VARIETY AND VINEYARD produced with 100% Barbera grapes from our vineyards. Harvesting operations are done manually in mid-September.
SOIL
The soil is a variable composition of limestone, sand and clay. Cultivation method is Guyot, with South West exposure.
WINEMAKING
With careful selection in the vineyard, the best bunches are placed in small crates and carefully de-stemmed. The fermentation happens in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26 ° C. This lasts for about ten days. After the malolactic fermentation and a brief stay in steel tanks, in the first months of the year following the harvest, the wine is aged in large French oak barrels of 2,100 liters, where it matures for about 6 months. Bottling takes place in the summer of the second year after harvest. The evolution of this Barbera continues in bottle, lying down, in a dark environment at constant temperature until its perfect maturation.
TASTING NOTES
Deep ruby red color. The bouquet is elegant with notes of ripe cherry and dark chocolate. The palate is balanced, rich and powerful with a good persistence. Accompanies main courses of red meat, aged cheeses. As a result of its structure, this wine maintains its characteristics unchanged for many years, refining and exalting itself over time.
SERVING TEMPERATURE: 17-18°C (62-64F)
